Milwaukee, WI – Gold In September® (G9) is inspiring Milwaukee to turn GOLD as part of its #growGOLD initiative that launches during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
#growGOLD shows the world that you want to do something about the future of survival for all kids diagnosed with cancer. #growGOLD builds community support for the hospitals and families battling cancer in your own back yard. #growGOLD effects greater change by supporting all childhood cancer efforts across the globe as a united GOLD movement.
In partnership with G9, Governor Scott Walker will be officially proclaiming September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Wisconsin. To kick off the month of awareness, on September 5th, 2016, the Milwaukee Brewers and Brewers Community Foundation will host a #growGOLD game against the Chicago Cubs at Miller Park. Then throughout September, residents of Milwaukee will see highways, buildings, businesses, schools, and teams joining the #growGOLD movement as they turn GOLD, and across the country G9 will air radio PSA’s with national reach to raise awareness of childhood cancer.
“After losing a son to cancer, and then a husband to the long-term effects of the cancer treatments he received as a young adult, we knew we had to do something. I am motivated by the Milwaukee community for finding unique ways to support the #growGOLD movement, from iconic buildings lighting up GOLD to local food vendors creating special GOLD donuts, it all makes a difference,” says Sarah Bartosz, President of G9.
Childhood cancer is an urgent health crisis, even for those who are surviving. But there is hope. gold (G) and September (9) being the nationally recognized color and month for childhood cancer awareness, G9’s mission is to increase funding for childhood cancer research and initiatives by raising awareness that inspires action. Together, under a united nation of GOLD, we can change the future of childhood cancer.
