Advancing Pediatric Medical Research for Kids in Wisconsin and Beyond

MILWAUKEE – Gold in September’s® President, (G9) Sarah Bartosz, served as the keynote speaker at the Children’s Hospital Research Institute Forum on November 8, 2018. The purpose of this inaugural event was to increase visibility and understanding of the Children’s Hospital Research Institute as well as the ground-breaking research that happens every day at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW).

“It was an honor to be asked to speak at this event, which offers so much hope for families who are seeking new therapies for a variety of health issues. Children’s hospital is doing amazing work not only in the area of pediatric cancer research, but on a myriad of other health fronts,” Bartosz notes.

Gold In September has been a been significant supporter of pediatric cancer research at Children’s Hospital. Earlier this year, the organization presented CHW with the first-ever $500,000 impact grant to support the development of a Pediatric Glioma Research Program.

“The programs that are created through the Children’s Research Institute play a crucial part in the search for a cure to childhood cancer. With less than 4% of the National Health Institute’s budget funding research all pediatric cancers combined, the only way we can do this by providing support to programs like this one,” Bartosz adds.

The Bartosz family is no stranger to the devastating impact of pediatric cancer. The G9 organization was founded by Sarah’s daughter, Annie, following the 2012 death of her twin brother to childhood cancer. Their loss started a quest to color the world gold (the official color of childhood cancer), in September (childhood cancer awareness month). “We know that raising awareness to fulfill this mission extends past coloring the world gold during September. It requires all of us to do our part to support research initiatives that will provide safer and more effective cures for all pediatric cancers,” Bartosz concludes.
