Gold in September
From the big leagues to the fields of Friday Night Lights, professional and high school teams in Wisconsin will show their support for Gold In September (G9), a locally grown non-profit dedicated to generating awareness for pediatric cancer. The charity combines the color gold (G), the nationally recognized color for childhood cancer, and September (9), the ninth month which is the nationally recognized month, and won’t rest until every child, everywhere survives cancer. On Saturday, September 15, the Milwaukee Brewers will hold a Gold Out at their 6:10 p.m. game to show their support for G9. At the end of the fourth inning, all fans in attendance will flip placards to turn the entire stadium gold in a powerful moment of support for those touched by childhood cancer. On Friday, September 14, Arrowhead High School will also hold a Gold Out at the Varsity Football game. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., G9 founder Annie Bartosz, an Arrowhead junior, will give a speech about G9 inspire action of fellow high school students. G9 was founded by Annie Bartosz who lost her twin brother, Jack, to cancer at age 10. From her home in Hartland, Wis., Annie saw the world turn pink in October and wanted kids battling cancer to feel the same support. She became determined to spread the shocking message that one child is diagnosed with cancer every two minutes and this urgent health crisis can only be fought with funding early phase clinical trials.
